The U.N. Security Council approved on Thursday a resolution condemning Russia’s conduct in Syria.
The resolution was unanimously approved by the 15-member council.
It is the first time the U,S.
and its allies have used the council to call out Russia for the attacks in Syria that killed hundreds of civilians.
Russia has not directly responded to the resolution.
However, its top diplomat Vitaly Churkin has repeatedly called on the U to take strong measures to punish Russia for its actions in Syria, particularly targeting of civilians and the violation of the rights of civilians, according to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
The council adopted the resolution after an hour-long session.
It passed a similar resolution in March.
The United States is currently the only country not to have a permanent seat on the council.
