Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and an assist in the second period and the Washington Capitals 3-1 shootout win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday night.
Ovechekkin’s goal, his first of the season, was his fifth of the year, and his first since Jan. 3 against the St. Louis Blues.
The Capitals outshot Pittsburgh 12-6 in the period, and the Penguins shot just 1-for-9 on the power play.
Washington (10-11-2) was coming off a 2-1 loss at Boston on Thursday night.
The Penguins (12-14-4) are coming off an 0-2 loss to Toronto on Friday night.
